Gas Safe plumbers replace Corgi Registered plumbers

When it came to fitting of anything gas, it used to require a Corgi Registered Plumber, this is to say a plumber who was registered with the Council for Registered Gas Installers (CORGI).

Founded in 1991 this was the case right through until 2009 and was a legal requirement of gas installers in the United Kingdom and its members were required to hold a certificate of competence as part of their membership and proof of their ability to carry out work involving any gas installations such as cookers, central heating systems and gas fires.

Out with the old and in with the new – The Gas Safe Register

Nowadays having replaced the old Corgi system, gas plumbers are now required to be registered with the Gas Safe register (GSR), which is now the UK’s official registration scheme for gas plumbers and is operated and administered by the Capita group on behalf of the Health and Safety Executive.

Anyone not on the register cannot lawfully carry out any gas related work and consumers are strongly urged to ensure that should you employ anyone to carry out repairs or maintenance to check that they are indeed currently on the Gas Safe Register (GSR) proving their competency to carry out work on your appliances.

So remember it’s not Corgi anymore it’s the GSR (Gas Safety Register.) Giving you the peace of mind that jobs are carried out by qualified gas safe plumbers.
