How important is a boiler service plan?
Boiler Service plans are often overlooked when it comes to protecting your home, and your wallet, against the unexpected. For many, a service plan may seem like an unnecessary alternative to insurance: regularly paying money for something that you may never use. There are actually some distinct differences between the two, meaning with a service plan you will always be getting something for your money.
Starting a service plan will give you peace of mind and will very likely save you money in the long run!
To start with, it’s worth discussing the main differences between a service plan and insurance. The main difference is the “value for money” that a service plan provides. With annual servicing to the boiler included, you will always have something to show for your money. This is something that you wouldn’t get with an insurance plan. Don’t forget, this is all alongside the standard breakdown cover, parts, labour costs and more, package dependent.
The likelihood of a boiler breakdown only increases as the appliance gets older, particularly if the boiler is over 10 years old. However, for a boiler to reach its full life expectancy, it is recommended to have an annual service. As it’s already included in a plan, you’ll be getting the most out of your boiler up until it does ultimately breakdown.
Did you know?
- 1 in 5 UK homes experienced a boiler breakdown in 2016
- In the same year it cost the UK £787million in boiler repairs
- On average, it costs between £750 to £1000 to replace a boiler
- If you are a landlord, an annual service is a legal requirement
- We guarantee a same day service if you call us out before 3pm
It is probably unsurprising that most breakdowns happen in the winter months, with January being the most common. With that being the time of year most of us tighten the purse strings, the last thing you want to do is fork out at the beginning of the new year!
It is important to be protected when something goes wrong with your boiler, whatever the month may be. With it fast approaching summer, it is unlikely that your central heating system is at the forefront of your mind. Don’t let this stop you from planning ahead.
Who would want to be without hot water in in January? Not us, that’s for sure!
